For quite some time, the need to upskill the construction industry labour force to deliver quality nearly zero-energy buildings (nZEB) and deep energy renovations is quoted as one of the main challenges to the sector nowadays.

The FIT-TO-NZEB project aims to increase the competence and skills of the building professionals in all participating countries - Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria, Italy, Croatia, Ireland, Austria and Greece - through unique educational programmes and pilot training courses, which will contribute to both the quality and the scale of the deep energy building renovations.

Nearly 900 construction specialists have been trained by the Bulgarian Building Knowledge Hub (BKH), situated in the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy (UACEG) in Sofia. The courses are conducted along more than 20 innovative training programs, addressing topical issues from the Bulgarian and European construction practice.

On 2 March 2017, the Train-to-NZEB project presented ‘The way to nearly zero energy buildings’
, the first dedicated NZEB-related conference in the Czech Republic, held to mark the occasion of opening the CZ Building Knowledge Hub.
The conference was combined with an exhibition of efficient technical solutions and materials (awarded by quality mark Product - technology 2017).
It was held at the premises of the Architecture and Building Foundation (ABF).

On 17 May 2017, one day after the media opening ceremony, the Bulgarian BKH (Center of Excellence for Energy Efficiency and RES in Buildings, in the context of the Train-to-NZEB project) will host a train-the-trainer course in Sofia, Bulgaria, lead by Arch.
