The Commission is in the process of updating some of the content on this website in light of the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union. If the site contains content that does not yet reflect the withdrawal of the United Kingdom, it is unintentional and will be addressed.

The conference brings together an international group of leading practitioners, policy makers and researchers who routinely improve the health and comfort and minimize the energy consumption, operating costs, and environmental impacts of buildings. ICEBO 2012 is the leading forum for a timely exchange among individuals interested in the continuous improvement and maintenance of buildings, design, their energy usage and environmental impact.

In the design and operation of positive-energy buildings a pragmatic target is maximization of the actual net energy produced (NEP) by intelligently shaping demand to perform generation-consumption matching.A control and optimization ICT methodology that combines model-based predictive control and cognitive-based adaptive optimization has been proposed under the PEBBLE project. PEBBLE is an FP7 Project supported by the European Commission FP7-ICT-2007-9.6.3, ICT for Energy Efficiency under contract #248537.

Here is a brief summary of what some of the projects presented:Pebble Project:   Visitors were able to interact with a scale-model of a neighbourhood (buildings and homes) equipped with real sensors and actuators, an interactive game guided visitors to make control decisions in order to save energy.SMARTCODE Project:  There was a house represented by its real devices (e.g. a washing machine and a refrigerator) connected via LED stripes to illustrate the flow of energy.

23 European cities, of which 21 Covenant Signatories, have already signed the Green Digital Charter, hereby designating an important role for ICT in their Sustainable Energy Action Plans. Both the GDC and the Covenant of Mayors (CoM) aim for significant CO2 emission reductions: The GDC focuses specifically on ICT, whereas the Covenant of Mayors covers the wide spectrum of energy efficiency.
