On 19 March 2014, the members of the POWER HOUSE Warm/Mediterranean Climates TaskForce met in Marseille to present to the management and technical staff of the Association Régionale Hlm PACA & Corse the TaskForce’s findings and exchange information about Mediterranean bioclimatic architectural principles.

Across Europe a green building revolution is under way. Germany and Austria, home of the passive house standards, may be leading the process but there is a reassuring pan-European feel to Powerhouse Europe challenge - – a project that aims at boosting the number of "nearly zero energy" homes across the continent by sharing ideas and expertise between social housing professionals. The project has provided several interesting lessons such as how to build and renovate homes at nearly zero energy standards.

The task of future proofing homes for European citizens is being taken in hand by CECODHAS Housing Europe members. Public, Cooperative and Social Housing providers are working to meeting the challenge of balancing social and ecological goals. While the situation varies throughout the Union, in some cases, the cost of constructing housing which meets ambitious energy performance requirements exceeds the cost price standard in the sector; higher costs prices are a result of more complex building concepts and systems, use of alternative materials, procurement procedures.

Experts agree that the feedback from people living in energy efficient buildings could help to optimise their overall usability.   Those who live in low-energy buildings are not experts. But energy professionals have been aware of the importance of meeting their needs, right from conception stage.  Nevertheless the most effective strategy for reducing energy and emissions remains to change the energy-consuming behaviour of users.
