On 1 June 2016, ASHRAE announced a call for papers for the Second International Conference on Energy and Indoor Environment for Hot Climates, which takes place on 26-27 February 2017, at the Intercontinental Doha City Hotel, in Doha, Qatar. This conference addresses energy and Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) issues in humid and arid hot climates.

Organised by ASHRAE, the ASHRAE Qatar Oryx Chapter and Qatar University, the Second International Conference on Energy and Indoor Environment for Hot Climates takes place on 26-27 February 2017, at the Intercontinental Doha City Hotel, in Doha, Qatar. This conference addresses energy and Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) issues in humid and arid hot climates. The scope of the conference is to provide a forum for discussion of the latest research and development in the field of indoor environmental quality in high ambient temperature climates.

The 2016 EUROVENT Summit will gather industry in the areas of Indoor Climate, Process Cooling, and Food Cold Chain from Europe, the Middle East and Northern Africa. More than 300 manufacturers, industry associations, engineering societies, laboratories and political decision-makers will be participating in around 40 meetings, seminars and events. This year’s Summit puts a special emphasis on the Polish market and its industry.

This paper, released by the Fraunhofer, Institut für Bauphysik – IBP, reveals that many schools across Europe do not provide an adequate indoor environment for their students; they fail to provide a sufficient outdoor air supply rate and are too warm in the summer months. The findings of the study report excessive levels of CO2, above the recommended range of 1,000 – 2,000 ppm, together with inadequate levels of daylight.

On 1 April 2016, ASHRAE announced the release of ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 62.2-2016, Ventilation and Acceptable Indoor Air Quality in Residential Buildings, which defines the roles of and minimum requirements for mechanical and natural ventilation systems and the building envelope intended to provide acceptable indoor air quality in residential buildings.

The Air Infiltration and Ventilation Centre’s new Technical Note 68 “Residential Ventilation and Health” is now available.   This Technical Note summarises studies that prioritise pollutants in the indoor environment and presents a summary of pollutants driving the health risks indoors and their sources. It also describes methods to reduce exposures of contaminants using different control strategies with a special emphasis on the role of ventilation.

Exposures in homes constitute the major part of exposures to airborne pollutants experienced through the human lifetime. They can constitute from 60 to 95% of our total lifetime exposures, of which 30% occurs when we sleep.
