As the negotiations on the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) revision proceeds, the European Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (eceee) has noted some worrying signs that threaten to deliver less savings, contradict the “energy efficiency first” principle and create unwanted side effects on the renewables side. In particular, the proposed discounting of off-site renewables must be removed from the proposals.

The project SECURE (Smarter Energy Communities in Northern & Arctic Regions) aims to foster energy-secure communities through the promotion of energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions.   It will achieve this by transferring and implementing innovative energy solutions for housing and public infrastructures in seven regions across the Northern Periphery and Arctic programme area.   Stakeholders will study effective technologies and good practice approaches that promote the increased use of energy efficiency and renewable energy resources.

Smart and flexible 100% renewable district heating and cooling systems for European cities     SmartReFlex, an Intelligence Energy Europe (IEE) project, aimed to inspire the development of sustainable district heating and cooling solutions for the future by setting up an exchange of ideas, expertise and experience.   The project actions have aimed at increasing the diffusion of smart and flexible district heating and cooling systems including high shares of renewable energy sources (high-RES DHC) in European towns and cities.
