The best ways to finance investment in energy efficiency were the main topic of discussion at the recent Energy Efficient Finance Market Place, held on 18-19 January 2017 in Brussels. The event, organised by the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EASME) brought together 350 participants working on energy efficiency finance from the financial sector, energy service companies, project developers and public authorities. The event's presentations are now available online.
This event was a mix of plenary discussions and 24 breakout sessions with a focus on practical experiences and projects. A wide range of topics were addressed, from standardisation and benchmarking, to capacity building, awareness raising, aggregation, de-risking and innovative financing schemes.
The participants shared information about successful energy efficiency schemes implemented at local and regional levels, financing mechanisms and products available, and the practical challenges to implementing them on a large scale. This event benefited from the lessons learned in about 40 different projects, which were mostly supported by Horizon 2020, the EU's research and innovation funding programme.
