On 14 March 2016, the European Commission's Department for Energy organised a stakeholders' event on the upcoming reviews of the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED - 2012/27/EU) and the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD - 2010/31/EU). The aim of the event was to discuss the findings of the evaluations on both Directives, which have been recently finalised by the Commission, possible policy options and ways forward.

The event's presentations are now available online.

Background

Reviews of both these Directives follow the adoption of the Energy Union Strategy in February 2015 and are inline with the target of promoting energy efficiency as an energy source in its own right. Both reviews are foreseen for adoption during the 3rd quarter of 2016.

In this context, the Commission had, inter alia, launched public consultations for the EED and the EPBD review respectively, with the objective to consult stakeholders on the review of the Directives and to evaluate whether these Directives have met their aims. The findings of the consultations were taken into account in the Commission's evaluations.
