On 01.01.2021, the nearly zero-energy building standard will be implemented for new buildings in EU countries. The construction sector is thus facing both the major task of executing the lowest energy standard of buildings and ongoing changes in the labour market.

With the aim of a Europe-wide comparability of acquired skills, NEWCOM has created training schemes for flat roof and structural waterproofing, comfort ventilation and quality assurance and developed a competence database for the Europe-wide comparability of acquired skills e.

The low energy standards are not only obligatory for new buildings, but also for building renovations. Therefore, the education of the professionals in the construction sector becomes more and more important.

Because even small mistakes in the construction can lead to increased energy consumption and loss of indoor comfort.

Within NEWCOM new qualification and education schemes were developed to address the challenges. These trainings are compiled as modular schemes with the possibility to be added to already existing courses.

Based on the current needs of the partner countries for professionals in the fields of flat roof and structural waterproofing, comfort ventilation and quality assurance of near zero-energy buildings, specific training modules have been prepared.

These training schemes were tested within Train the Trainer sessions in the partner countries to provide inputs for optimisation.

Gained knowledge, skills and competences are collected in the NEWCOM competence database. Professionals attending the developed training schemes are tested and approved against developed and agreed ULOs (Units of Learning Outcomes).

Approved professionals are offered to register in the NEWCOM competence database.

The NEWCOM competence database enables companies to search for competent employees, professionals to present their skills in a comprehensible manner on the job market and to compare completed training schemes in different EU countries.

The NEWCOM competence database builds a basis for the mutual recognition of training schemes all over Europe. Professionals are offered to through the BUILD UP Skills advisor app.

The project was presented and its results shared at different conferences, events, platforms and workshops at national and European level, engaging stakeholders in educational institutions and universities, chambers and guilds, building professionals and energy experts, architects and engineers.

The final events of the project have taken place in Austria, Hungary, the Netherlands and Slovakia.

The NEWCOM project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme.
