Multi-family houses of pre-war time retrofitted to achieve efficiency house plus level

Share this Post:

On May 2 2016, the first renovated multi-family houses, to generate more energy than they consume annually, were inaugurated in Neu-Ulm, Germany. The nearly 80 years old buildings have been modernised in an energy efficient and top-quality architectural way. They have received high-level insulation and have been equipped with modern building technology for the use of renewable energy. The remaining low energy demand will be covered from photovoltaic panels. The ground plots have been modified, the ground floor adapted to be barrier-free and the attic reconstructed to studio apartments.

The buildings will be monitored for two years. All energy consumptions and energy generations will be analysed and compared to the calculations. The retrofitted efficiency houses plus are part of the network “Effizienzhaus Plus” of the German Federal Building Ministry (BMUB - Bundesministerium für Umwelt, Naturschutz, Bau und Reaktorsicherheit).
