Low-E glass considerably increases the energy saving properties of windows compared to “basic” double glazing. Low-E glass units:
- Reduce heat loss and allow passive solar heat gain
- Reduce energy consumption required to heat a building
- Reduce energy related CO2 emissions
- Help to reduce heating bills
The technology of Low-Emissivity glass, its applications and availabilities are presented in the brochure, along with the research methodology followed by TNO. Energy and CO2 savings from using Low-E glass in double-glazed and triple glazed-units are quantified and presented country by country and at EU level. This research underlines the need for concerted policy actions at both EU and national levels to step-up the use of energy-efficient glass technologies.
