How the city of Poznań fights against air pollution and heat losses

The city of Poznań in Poland has been involved in different projects to tackle air pollution and decarbonise heating. For example, through the partnership with Veolia which was aimed at designing an energy transition and clean air strategy, the have facilitated the connection to district heating networks and transformed the network by shortening the connection period.

 

Another project, called the Kawka programme, the city was able to replace onerous furnaces and boilers fired with coal into lower-emissions system. Most emissions came from residential houses and contributed to the air pollution of the old city centre. A solution was the development and modernisation of the district heating system of the city, together with education activities for citizens to raise awareness on these issues.
