The implemented BuildingEQ data gathering and analysis identified potential energy savings mainly by adjusting air handling units running on schedules according to the need. By comparing measured consumption to the simulated targets, energy saving potentials of 30 % for heating and 20 % for electricity was estimated.

Senate Properties is a government owned enterprise under the aegis of the Finnish Ministry of Finance and is responsible for managing the Finnish state's property assets and for letting premises. Senate Properties provides services related to premises, primarily to customers which form part of the state administration. The services include leasing premises, investments, and the administration and development of the property portfolio.  As a business enterprise, Senate Properties finances its own operations and is not dependent on the state budget. The building stock comprises university, office, research, cultural and other buildings.

The building is rented and occupied by Helsinki University of Technology.

Utilization
The building is used for educational purposes. There are offices for researchers and auditoriums, seminar rooms, classrooms and a canteen in the building.

Building concept
The building is in U-shape with 3 floors and an attic. It is located in the campus area of HUT in Otaniemi. Windows were replaced and the envelope insulation was improved during renovation.

HVAC concept
The building is connected to the district heating network. It consists of a radiator heating with thermostatic radiator valves. Six air handling units with energy wheel or plate exchanger heat recovery, heating and cooling. Water chiller with free cooling. Space cooling using fan coil units. In addition an building automation system is provided.
