Professor Zhibin Yu from University of Glasgow has found a solution to recover the waste heat of heat pumps and divert it to resolve the frosting problem, improving the heat pump´s overall performance. The main point is that heat pumps, instead of just genereting heat, they can also capture it and spread it all over the house.

 

Currently only about 10% of space heating requirements globally are met by heat pumps, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). This recent innovation can boost even more the deployment of heat pumps worldwide.
