The Business Center Lower Austria has been built in 2007 and has a gross floor area of approximately 7000 m². The heating and cooling demand are 66.5 respectively 90% lower than the Lower Austrian Building code. The heating demand is 4.57 kWh/m³y and the cooling demand is 0.1 kWh/m³y. Laut Gesetz hat jeder Verbraucher seit Jahresbeginn das Recht, von seinem Stromversorger den Einbau eines intelligenten Stromzählers zu verlangen. Für Neubauten oder bei größeren Sanierungen ist der Einbau seit Januar sogar Pflicht. Doch keine Regel ohne Ausnahme. Die Einschränkung im Energiewirtschaftsgesetz: „Soweit dies technisch machbar und wirtschaftlich zumutbar ist.“ Die Kosten trägt der Netzbetreiber. Der Kunde zahlt lediglich eine Monatsmiete für das Gerät. Für Altbauten gilt: Der Einbau ist grundsätzlich möglich – aber noch freiwillig.
