Concept: As one of the oldest building materials, lime still plays an essential role in constructions, and its global market is on the rise. The EU-funded SUBLime project will develop the most advanced technology in lime-based materials modelling and description for industrial use that will surpass existing solutions in the new construction and conservation sectors.

Nestled in the heart of a residential neighbourhood in the north of Brussels, the project closes off a fairly diverse square with a parking lot at its centre, and faces a large church and an uninteresting housing structure. The buildings are set back far enough to avoid creating an out-of-place profile and maintain continuity with the existing buildings on Rue Saints Pierre et Paul, while also taking advantage of the south-facing slope of the terrain.

The Post Occupancy Evaluation Surveys of the ZERO-PLUS four pilot case studies in UK, Italy, France and Cyprus has been completed and the scientific results confirm the high quality of the projects' design, detailing and construction. ZERO-PLUS case studies underwent Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE) surveys, covering different seasons and hours of the day, including interviews of tenants by surveyors.

The building sector can be a central pillar of this effort and can make a significant contribution to a strengthened 2030 greenhouse gas reduction target. Increasing actions and investment to accelerate building renovations will also lead to sustaining a green economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic and improving living conditions for Europeans.
