Leaders of 193 countries are set to meet for the next annual U.N. climate summit in November in South Africa, where governments will discuss ways to encourage investments to reach at least $100 billion a year by 2020 toward tackling climate change. Companies that advocate climate change need to have a stronger, unified voice to counteract others that might oppose stronger action, said Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change, in a webcast of a meeting of chief executives in London.

European Energy Commissioner Günther Oettinger said: "This is an example of how an idea presented during last year’s Covenant of Mayors Ceremony is now a reality and having an impact on the ground. ELENA is a chance for cities and regions to help themselves by implementing Sustainable Energy Action Plans that create jobs, and at the same time help Europe as a whole meet its climate goals. After the strong response from cities and regions, we intend to double available ELENA funding to EUR 30 million.”
