03/12/2013.  Today the European Commission has welcomed the adoption by EU Member States of Horizon 2020, the next EU research and innovation programme. With a budget of nearly 80 billion euro over a seven year period, Horizon 2020 is the biggest EU research programme yet, and one of the biggest publicly funded worldwide.

The CIP (Competitive and Innovation programme) has been included in the new European funding programme for research and innovation: Horizon2020.H2020 is a very flexible financial instrument but also very complex.  It will foresee funding opportunities in the energy sector in the Focus Area 3 "Secure, clean and efficient energy" and also FA4 "Smart, green and integrated transport" of Pillar III (Societal Challenges).

Objective of the consultationIntelligent Energy – Europe II (IEE II) is one of the three pillars of the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP) and the main EU instrument for non-technological support in the field of energy. Its objective is to contribute to removal of market barriers that hamper the efficient use of energy and increased use of renewable energy sources.
