Buildings account for more than one-third of global carbon emissions. Five years after the Paris Climate Agreement, it is high time to act. To facilitate this process, the IGBC call on Irish businesses and cities to take a leadership role and to sign up to the Advancing Net Zero Commitment. The commitment, which aims to see 100% uptake of net zero carbon buildings by 2050, challenges businesses and cities to ensure that all buildings they own, occupy and/or develop operate at net zero carbon by 2030.

The H2020 project CRAVEzero aims to increase the viability of nearly Zero-Energy Buildings (nZEB) through solutions and tools for supporting the cost reduction during the whole life cycle of the buildings. In particular, one of the backbones of the project is the CRAVEzero pinboard, a structured platform that includes all the tools and supporting materials elaborated within the project.

These projects will further facilitate Europe’s low carbon energy transition by helping to upgrade buildings’ energy performance, enhancing the role of consumers to change the market and developing smart energy services, channeling further private finance into energy efficiency investments and supporting public authorities and policy makers in driving the energy transition.   Currently, EASME is preparing the grant agreements with the aim to kick-off projects from September 2020 onwards.

In March 2020, FEDARENE launched the 2020 Roger Léron Award and its call for nominations in order to celebrate outstanding contributions to sustainable energy at local, regional and European level.   In the meantime, Europe and the other continents were going through one of the most dreadful crisis ever experienced, both in terms of health and economy.
