A small family-owned company near Vicenza (Italy) have produced roofing tiles which hide a very unique particular: they contain solar photovoltaic cells. The tiles are made to look intentionally like traditional terra-cotta and could be easily installed in heritage cities like Vicenza.

The installation of these tiles is also quite easy and does not require any specific skills from the installers. The tiles have been installed in Pompeii and another small town in Italy. A larger installation will soon happen in Portugal as part of a EU-funded project to make heritage cities greener and smarter.
