H2020 - Horizon 2020

The Commission is in the process of updating some of the content on this website in light of the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union. If the site contains content that does not yet reflect the withdrawal of the United Kingdom, it is unintentional and will be addressed.

Buildings account for around 40% of energy consumption and 36% of CO2 emissions in the European Union.   Curtains walls, associated with modern architecture and large office building stock, are often criticized for their limited insulation properties. Existing buildings, including historical ones, are responsible for up to 60% energy losses through the envelope.

Concept:   Vulnerable communities are severely affected by natural disasters. A model for the estimation of the impact of disasters and for planning mitigation policies is essential.   The EU-funded MulHaRes project will develop a decision model to support multi-hazard resistance of residential buildings to floods and landslides provoked by heavy rainfalls.

Concept and objectives:   For the construction sector, and more globally for Non-Road Mobile Machineries, electrification is a major stake, as most of construction equipment is working with diesel engines and presents a lot of drawbacks that will not be acceptable anymore in the future: Air pollution, Emission of CO2, Noise

Concept: The EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive requires all new buildings to be nearly zero-energy by the end of 2020. Building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) is crucial for the decarbonisation of the building stock in Europe.   The technology integrates solar elements into buildings to generate electricity.
