Concept:   The achievement of the EU climate targets for 2030 will be facilitated by the widespread adoption of renewable energy. Hosting capacity can be reached through the market uptake of citizen energy communities (CEC).   The EU-funded LIGHTNESS project will increase the renewable energy capacity through social engagement, a regulatory roadmap, a low-cost technological package and innovative business models.

Concept and objectives:   procuRE brings together 6 procurers from 6 countries, responsible for over 21,000 public buildings, to invest over €7 million in R&D to tackle their common challenge of achieving 100% Renewable Energy Supply (RES) in existing stock.

Concept:   The building sector is the single largest energy consumer in Europe. Within its 2030 climate and energy framework, the EU has committed to improving the energy performance of buildings.   Since three quarters of today’s buildings will still exist in 2050, the key to a low carbon building stock is to renovate.

Concept and objectives:   Conques is visited annually by thousands of tourists and walking pilgrims. It is a unique site of cultural heritage preserving outstanding visual, material, and ritual cultures from the 9th to the 21st c. Regretfully, its cultural significance contrasts with the lack of comprehensive scholarly attention.

Concept:   Innovation in interconnected systems design is crucial for reducing cost and complexity in multi-component computing platforms.   Current software development tools cannot fulfil the various antagonistic criteria in programming architecture. AMPERE’s model-driven engineering (MDE) framework addresses this challenge.

Concept:   As one of the oldest building materials, lime still plays an essential role in constructions, and its global market is on the rise.   The EU-funded SUBLime project will develop the most advanced technology in lime-based materials modelling and description for industrial use that will surpass existing solutions in the new construction and conservation sectors.

Concept: In the race towards building smarter, more powerful and more connected machines, scientists are also searching for ways to make sure they are energy efficient.   If no action is taken, computers will soon need more electricity than the world energy resources can generate. More alarmingly, the Internet of Things will connect up to 50 billion devices to the cloud through wireless networks.
