By approaching how the sector and households are adapting and making their properties more climate friendly, and how the Covid-19 has affected their objectives, we can now draw a more accurate picture of where property owners stand regarding renovation.

The European Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET Plan) is a key stepping-stone to boost the transition towards a climate neutral energy system through the development of low-carbon technologies in a fast and cost-competitive way.   By improving new technologies and bringing down costs through coordinated national research efforts, the SET Plan helps promote cooperation among EU countries, companies and research institutions, and in so doing also deliver on the key objectives of the energy union.

The 2018 revision of the European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) aims to further promote smart building technologies, in particular through the establishment of a Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI) for buildings.  A first technical study to support the establishment of the SRI concluded in August 2018 and aimed at investigating the possible scope and characteristics of such an indicator. End of December 2018, a second technical support study was launched with the aim to provide further technical input to feed the establishment of the SRI scheme.
