This policy brief presents insights into how the buildings sector could contribute to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050, thanks to the help of the newly developed European Calculator (EUCalc) model. The model shows that achieving EU climate neutrality will require a transformative approach both in the building sector and regarding how electricity and heat are produced.

Digital Skills for Workplace Mentors in Construction Sector Apprenticeships (CONDAP) is an EU-funded project with the objective to enhance the digital skills of mentors in construction apprenticeships. Instructus Skills are working together with other European partners from Greece (Exelia), Lithuania (VSRC), Belgium (EBC) and Spain (Polytechnic University of Valencia).

In a letter sent to housing secretary Robert Jenrick, Khan points out that the proposed Future Homes Standard sets carbon reduction targets 25% lower than those detailed in the 2016 London plan. The Future Homes Standard is currently under consultation and is due to come into effect in the latter half of 2020, covering England only.

BUILD UP Skills Advisor app was first released in 2015, with the aim of providing construction workers with job-specific advice and short upskilling opportunities. By turning on the app notifications for specific techniques, the user automatically receives updates on the most current course offers as well as question sets based on practical real-life situations.

Morocco’s residential sector is growing – as is energy demand. To keep in line with Morocco’s NDC objectives, a financing mechanism to support energy efficiency is under preparation with support from the NAMA Facility . Within this NAMA support project, real estate developers will be supported to construct new energy efficient buildings (through the public housing developer Al Omrane) and retailers will be incentivized to market highly efficient appliances.

European leaders agreed in December that Europe would adopt a net-zero emission target for 2050 which would be put into legislation in March of this year. The European Commission issued a list of initiatives to respond to the ambitious goal of reaching carbon neutrality for all. This includes a "renovation wave" whose details will be clarified at the end of 2020.
