26 March 2015. The European Commission launched a public consultation on the preparation of a legislative proposal regarding greenhouse gas emission targets for each Member State for the sectors not covered by the EU Emissions Trading System, namely buildings, transport, waste and service sectors, in line with 2030 framework target of at least 40% reduction of GHG emissions relative to 1990. The 40% reduction is to come from the ETS (43% reduction relative to 2005) and the non-ETS sectors (30% compared to 2005).

The Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROWTH) has launched the on-line video competition “Build Europe with us!” with the aim to attract young talents to the construction sector.

The European Commission has proposed to provide The Netherlands with €1.6 million from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) to help 475 workers made redundant in the construction sector in the provinces of Gelderland and Overijssel to find new jobs. The proposal now goes to the European Parliament and the EU's Council of Ministers for their approval.

This year’s ESDE report offers an in-depth and wide-ranging review of key labour market and social challenges facing the EU as it slowly emerges from recession. The previous 2011 and 2012 editions of ESDE proved useful in helping policy-makers understand the scale and nature of the problems Europe faces. ESDE 2013 further develops the European Commission’s analysis and also examines to what extent employment and social policies have helped to counteract the growing challenges and what policy responses need to intensify or change.
