Technology prospects for directional lamps

Share this Post:
Directional lamps utilize a variety of light sources, including incandescent, halogen-incandescent, halogen infrared incandescent, xenon, compact fluorescent, metal halide, ceramic metal halide, and light emitting diodes (LEDs). This report presents summaries of new and forthcoming lamp technologies, based on discussions with manufacturers, visits to recent industry trade shows, a survey of directional lamps available in retail outlets in the USA, discussions at a stakeholder workshop in Brussels and a review of technical literature, government reports and manufacturers’ technical information. Much of this report focuses on advances in LEDs and how they have begun to offer an attractive alternative to the former, conventional light sources for directional lamps.
