More than 5 mio. inhabitants live in housing developments (settlements with more than 1000 dwelling units) in Germany. This means that 7.5 percent of all dwelling units are located in this type of settlement. The main task for the housing societies and other kind of owners was to save energy and heating costs and at the same time to improve the living quality in the often neglected large housing developments.

In Russia there is a big potential for improving the energy efficiency in the buildings, in the transport sector and in the industrial sector. According to statements of the Russian Government, the aim is to save about 40 percent of the Russian energy consumption by 2020 by using more efficient technology. rudea shall contribute to increase the energy modernisation of Russia under cooperation with German technology organisations.

The used energy efficiency technologies include new insulation materials, high efficient windows and phase change material as well as efficient energy supply technologies like a micro combined heat and power unit, fuel cells, heat pump and photovoltaic panels. The building is a transportable, fully functional light-weight construction and produces more energy than it consumes. A so-called intelligent energy reader indicates possible electrical energy savings. The building is made of sustainable, natural and recycable materials.
