METIS is a mathematical model which can provide highly detailed analysis of the whole European energy system for electricity, gas and heat. It can simulate the operation of both energy systems and markets for electricity gas and heat on an hourly basis for a whole year, while also factoring in uncertainties like weather variations. For example, it can analyse the impact of higher shares of renewable energy down to the hour.   The model can be used at EU country or regional level, right down to the 276 economic regions in the EU which are used by analysts.

The European Commission has just released its “Clean Energy For All Europeans” package, which includes key Energy Union legislative proposals: revisions of the Directives on Energy Efficiency (EED), Energy Performance of Buildings (EPBD) and Renewable Energy Sources (RED) including biomass sustainability rules, as well as a new Electricity Market Design and Energy Union governance framework.

  On 25 October 2016, the International Energy Agency (IEA) announced that it was significantly increasing its five-year growth forecast for renewables thanks to strong policy support in key countries and sharp cost reductions. Renewables have surpassed coal last year to become the largest source of installed power capacity in the world.

China International Trade Fair for Heating, Ventilation, Air-conditioning, Sanitation and Home Comfort System   ISH China & CIHE is the largest fair for the HVAC and plumbing industries in Asia. The fair falls under the ISH brand of shows. The 2017 edition will be held from 18 - 20 May 2017 at the New China International Exhibition Center in Beijing, China. The 21th edition will cover 97,000 sqm of exhibition space across eight halls, expects to welcome 1,300 exhibitors and 55,000 professional visitors.

Solar houses have a primary energy demand of maximum 15 kWh/m²a for heating and auxiliary. A thermal solar plant covers typically between 60 and 70 percent of the heat demand. The remainder is usually generated by a biomass boiler. The low primary energy demand of the solar houses (in German “Sonnenhäuser” or “SolarAktiv-Häuser”) is linked to additional costs at the building envelope and the building services systems. A new tool, developed at Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (Fraunhofer ISE), allows now the calculation of the necessary additional costs.
