Energy policies

SSPCR 2019 specifically wants to support the ‘transposition’ of research into practice and visionary approaches into (planning) policies and tools, to be applied by local authorities and decision-makers in an urban and regional context. SSPCR 2019 explores the impact of academic research, the scaling-up and replicability opportunities of pilot projects, and the added value of local bottom-up initiatives, in relation to complex challenges posed by the smart city/region approach.

Reducing energy consumption has a direct positive impact in the form of reduced energy bills, however, when selling the asset, at the moment, there is no evidence that buyers would recognise this value. In-depth research shows that although buildings with A or B energy labels are valued higher in some markets, it is not related to the energy performance of the building but rather an indicator of buyer preference for modern and comfortable buildings.

Solutions to Tackle Energy Poverty (STEP) is a project to develop a simple, innovative and replicable model of measures to address energy poverty.   The project covers some of the countries with the highest rates of energy poverty in Europe. These are Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia and the United Kingdom.   There are three specific objectives:
