Each community may have one or more of a range of objectives and activities. For example, raising environmental and energy awareness from a social and/or economic perspective may result in an education program; or a desire to be self-supporting, or less reliant on energy suppliers, may lead a community to explore Distributed Energy Resources (DERs).

After stalling last year, global capacity additions of renewable power are set to bounce back with double-digit growth in 2019, driven by solar PV’s strong performance, according to the International Energy Agency. The IEA expects renewable capacity additions to grow by almost 12% this year, the fastest pace since 2015, to reach almost 200 GW, mostly thanks to solar PV and wind. Global solar PV additions are expected to increase by over 17%.

Piraeus is the second leading Greek bank to confirm participation with the scheme, after the National Bank of Greece.   Piraeus Bank will identify and invest in new clean energy projects including wind farms, photovoltaic installations, biomass and biogas plants, and hydroelectric power stations. New investment to improve energy efficiency in the public and private buildings will also be examined, the EIB said in a press release.
