One of the main objectives of 4RinEU is to improve the energy performances of existing buildings through the renovation of their envelope. Therefore, within the project, a new concept of façade is being developed, namely a timber prefabricated multifunctional façade. These façade elements do not replace the existing façade, but they are added externally to the existing façade to increase its performances.

According to Eurostat, the residential and tertiary building sector accounts for up to 40% of the final energy consumption in Europe. Particularly, the highly adopted glazed surfaces in buildings are responsible for the 25%-30% of the energy needs of a building. In order these energy costs to be reduced; an optimal glazing should have a high solar transmittance in winter and a low transmission in the solar infrared band zone in summer.

Dämmstoffe sind aus dem Baualltag nicht mehr wegzudenken. Ihre Einsatzgebiete reichen von der Fassadendämmung bis zu Spezialanwendungen in der Versorgungstechnik. Nichts desto trotz wird gegenüber Dämmmaßnahmen vermehrt öffentliche Kritik laut, die den Anschein hat, dass sie sich hauptsächlich auf Fassadendämmung mit Wärmedämmverbundsystemen auf Polystyrolbasis konzentriert. Die vorliegende Analyse setzt sich deshalb aus Sicht der Bauforschung mit dieser Kritik auseinander. Sie betrachtet diejenigen Themen, die immer wieder diskutiert werden: Sind Dämmmaßnahmen wirtschaftlich?

Iako je gotovo nula energetske zgrade će biti "obavezna" za nove zgrade u Europi do 2020. godine – ne postoji određeni koncept zgrade, da će maksimalno koristiti dnevno svjetlo transparentnim staklenim pročeljem i u isto vrijeme ZEB performanse.   InDeWaG je projekt inovacijskog djelovanja, koji je financiran u okviru "Horizont 2020", javno-privatnog partnerstva "projektiranje zgrada za nove visoke zgrade".
