In October 2005, the EU and nine countries of South-East Europe (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo-UNMIK and Romania) signed the Energy Community Treaty, which aims to create the legal framework for an integrated European market for electricity and gas. Moldova and Ukraine also applied to join. The Energy Community Treaty calls on the South-East European countries to create a regional energy market designed to fit into the framework of the EU’s Internal Energy Market.

The goal of the initiative is to increase the number of qualified construction workers on energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies, so the sector will be ready to deliver high quality renovations and the new (nearly zero energy) buildings.

Building/Construction

Apart from energy assessors and inspectors, there is one more wide category of specialists that is essential in the achievement of energy efficiency in the building sector: That is the category of various craftsmen and other on-site construction workers and systems installers that will be relied upon in the construction of new buildings and/or the renovation of existing buildings.

Hannover, 22.11.2012 – More than half of the overall world population is living in urban areas - with rising tendency. The permanently increasing urbanization can be driven to more sustainability by ecological concepts for mobility, energy-efficient buildings and intelligent energy supply. Intelligent energy supply had also been the main subject of the well-attended “Sustainable Energy in Buildings and Urban Areas” Symposium (SEBUA 2012) which took place in Kusadasi near Izmir/Turkey from October 14 – 20, 2012.
