Geothermal energy is limitless, ubiquitous and free at the point of use. When combined with the very high energy efficiency of TABS and application range of hybrid systems, it offers huge potential to meet heating and cooling needs in Europe, and reduce CO2 emissions.

The free HVAC design tool “TABSDesign” is a computational aid for the sizing and control of thermally activated building systems (TABS). It supports and executes HVAC design of TABS through the unknown-but-bounded (UBB) planning process described in the "TABS Control" manual.

A range of breakthrough eco-building solutions which tackle the emerging problem of indoor air quality have been presented by the ECO-SEE project at the Ecobuild construction fair in London.
The solutions include novel insulation, coating and panel products which improve air quality by passively regulating humidity, capturing VOCs, and removing indoor organic pollutants through photocatalysis. External and internal wall panels have also been developed, in addition to design tools to support end users.

Buildings and settlements are nowadays increasingly expected to meet higher and potentially more complex levels of performance. They should be sustainable, use zero-net energy, be healthy and comfortable, grid-friendly, yet economical to build and maintain. Buildings are central to the EU‘s energy efficiency policy. Improving the energy performance of Europe‘s building stock is crucial, not only to achieve the EU‘s 2020 targets but also to meet the longer term objectives of the climate strategy as laid down in the low carbon economy roadmap 2050.

38,5% of energy savings in CUBE 2020? It's possible.
The building Quai Vendeuvre won the grand prize of the energy savings contest CUBE 2020 in 2016. While the 3rd edition of the contest just started, let’s ask the IFPEB’s director Cedric Borel about the score of the second edition’s winner, who made 38,5% of energy savings within a year! You said 38,5%, really? How is that possible?

15 Climate Stars given to cities and regions in 7 countries
On 6 October 2016, in Lower Austria’s Grafenegg Castle, 15 municipalities, regions and associations of local authorities from seven European countries were awarded with a Climate Star for their outstanding climate action initiatives. The local projects cover a wide range of topics, from energy and mobility to food systems and sustainable procurement up to climate justice and climate change adaptation.
