This year’s awards were presented by comedian, writer and environmental campaigner Mark Watson at a lunchtime ceremony in London’s Hilton Hotel on 22nd October 2010. The event attracted almost 600 people, with a cross section of senior industry figures including representatives of government departments, chief executives of leading social housing providers and representatives of the main trade and professional bodies.

Up to now, solar collectors which were integrated into façades were primarily available in form of flat plate collectors with a thermally insulated opaque rear wall. The award winning technology is based on evacuated tubes combined with aluminium reflectors in combination with aluminium frames and façade elements. All important technical aspects are uniquely combined in this product: thermal energy collection, visual transparency, even distribution of light throughout the room, thermal insulation and protection from the sun.

Schools in 31 European countries (the 27 EU member states, plus Norway, Croatia, Iceland and Liechtenstein) are invited to submit their contribution to a more energy-efficient future, earning the chance to win a prize and gain recognition at European level.

Den zweiten Preis erhielt die Saigon TanTec Limited für den energieeffizienten Neubau einer Lederfabrik in Vietnam. Der brasilianische Aluminiumproduzent Alunorte wurde mit einem Anerkennungspreis für die Senkung des Energiebedarfs bei der Aluminiumherstellung ausgezeichnet. Der mit insgesamt 35.000 Euro dotierte "Energy Efficiency Award 2010" wurde im Rahmen der Initiative EnergieEffizienz von der Deutschen Energie-Agentur GmbH (dena) in Zusammenarbeit mit der Deutschen Messe und der DZ BANK AG durchgeführt und vom Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Technologie gefördert.

Klima & Co is an Initiative of the German BP and the publishing company Zeitbild under the patronage of Ministry for the Environment. For the second time after 2008 pupils from numerous schools in Germany have developed ideas for energy saving and CO2 emission reduction together with their teachers. The multi-stage award procedure included the presentation of the concepts to a jury of experts from the Öko-Institut, the BUND and a representation of German pupils.
