Concept:   The European construction industry needs to improve the innovation of its SMEs in order to extend its value chain and integrate new dynamic industrial sectors.   To achieve critical mass and promote internationalisation, the European Construction Technology Platform (ECTP) has initiated a synergy with the ICT, additive manufacturing, nature-based solutions and recycling industrial sectors.

Every experience gained leads to new skills, knowledge and / or competence.   Although learning usually takes place through formal education, which is always organized, planned and with clearly defined goals, much of the knowledge is acquired through non-formal or informal education. Informal knowledge is often equated with the experience gained from everyday life.

Fit-to-nZEB, a Horizon 2020 project continuing the legacy of the BUILD UP Skills Initiative within the Construction Skills topical area, aims to increase the competence and skills of the building professionals in 7 European countries - Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Ireland, Italy and Romania - through unique educational programmes and pilot training courses, which will contribute to both the quality and the scale of the deep energy building renovations throughout EU.

The BIMcert project will develop a blended, fully supported suite of Building Information Modelling learning tools, which will allow geographically dispersed construction project teams to use technology to enhance information exchange and collaboration. The project will have a particular focus on testing the BIM approaches to green and passive building design to contribute to the improvement of energy efficiency.

BIM (Building Information Modelling) is the process of creating and managing information digitally across a building life-cycle. This information included in the model is not just the 3D geometrical data such as width, height, and depth, but “object oriented” and potentially comprises further dimensions such as time (4D), cost (5D), and operation (6D).
