Europe faces a profound challenge – to triple the current renovation rate in order to meet its climate and energy goals. EU countries had until 10 March to transpose the buildings directive, which was last updated in May 2018 as part of a package of clean energy laws.   The aim of the directive is to make the entire European building stock “highly energy efficient and decarbonised” so that emissions are brought down to near-zero by 2050.
