This project was the refurbishment of an early 19th C croft house. 3-bay, single-storey and attic, rectangular-plan crofting cottage situated on high ground overlooking Braemar village in the Cairngorms National Park. Rubble with lime render and pointing. Corrugated-iron roof covering heather thatch.   NORTH ELEVATION: Timber lean-to porch to centre, breaking eaves with timber door to left side; windows flanking. Smaller single windows to S and W elevations.

Reaching a height of 160 meters, the Paris Court covers an area of approximately 110,000 m² and accommodates up to 8,800 people per day.   The large rectangular atrium develops over the entire height of the base, up to 28 meters. This space is completed by two smaller atriums to the south and north, connected to the ground floor by a large longitudinal corridor through the entire base, from north to south, for 160 meters.

The collaboration of these two groups begins in 2014. The general line of research that defines the activity of the group is to provide answers and solutions related to the fields of energy engineering, industrial and construction design, sustainability and artificial intelligence.

Aerogels are open-porous, high-performance thermal insulation materials that can be used for very thinbuilding insulation. So far, the application conditions of these materials and their potential in heritagebuildings have not yet been described comprehensively. This review shows the technical properties ofcommercially available aerogel materials – such as blankets, boards and renders – and their use scenariosin heritage buildings, taking into account the heritage criteria of authenticity, integrity, reversibility andcompatibility.

This detached house represents the designer’s ambition to make this type of housing accessible to all and thus drastically reduce pollution related to buildings. The house is 100% autonomous thanks to its field of 96 m² bifacial photovoltaic panels (sized for two buildings) and its battery park. Production of photovoltaic panels = 19.2 kW peak battery storage capacity 15 kW. Here are the peculiarities of this house:

The Rainhof is one of the most precious rural buildings of the Gsiesertal valley (IT), at 1.500 m above sea level. Built with solid stone masonry walls and the vernacular “Blockbau” (solid wood) construction, the building presents many traditional features, such as windows with deep reveals, decorated painted frames around the windows, and vaulted ceilings. The project was awarded the 1st prize at the Bauern(h)auszeichnung - ITAS-Preis 2016 for the best renovation of a farmhouse in Südtirol.
