Five Eu funded projects (TripleAreno, iBROAD, HAPPEN, ALDREN, FittoNZEB) collaborating on integrated tools and methods for deep retrofitting, looked at key challenges that need to be surpassed for a breakthrough in building energy improvement, propose specific solutions, and highlight some good reasons for optimism.

Ten Priorities for the next European Commission to meet the EU’s 2030 targets and accelerate towards 2050
This report is on the fact that in 2018, the EU has decided upon a climate and energy framework up to 2030, involving clean, affordable and reliable energy system in Europe.
To that end, greenhouse gas emissions are to decline by at least 40 percent below 1990 levels, renewables are to deliver 32 percent of our energy and efficiency is to improve by even 32.5 percent.

CoME EASY’s overall objective is to promote, facilitate and extend the engagement of local public authorities in setting up and implementing sustainable and effective energy efficiency and climate action plans according to EU targets by applying a combination of synergistic supportive tools and initiatives. The CoME EASY project will provide municipalities with supporting tools for developing, monitoring and achieving their goals on energy and climate policy.

There is an intrinsic understanding that 'good architecture' defines the long-term functionality and resilience of buildings and that it has a strong bearing on building performance. However, it is not considered ‘measurable’ and it rarely features as a quantifiable value driver in investment cycles and legislation. This survey aims at investigating how the value of architectural solutions for better building performance is being taught in European Universities to architectural students.

Funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, the mission of the START2ACT project is to support young SMEs and startups to save energy and cut costs at their workplace. To fulfill this mission, we are offering free-of-charge mentoring and training activities in nine European countries:
Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and United Kingdom.

CEPPI – Coordinated energy-related PPIs actions for cities – aims to build capacity in cities on how to achieve more sustainable energy solutions through a pro-innovation procurement approach. The five cities involved in this project - Birmingham (UK), Budapest (Hungary), Castelló & Valencia (Spain) and Wrocław (Poland) – will intervene in scheduled public tenders to achieve a more sustainable energy outcome. The objective is to save at least 33GWh/year. The project will also help to develop the capacity of public authorities.

Urban Heat Island (UHI) is known to have significant impacts on the environment, giving rise to ambient temperatures in and around rural areas. At the same time, climate change issues are intensifying the UHI effects. To alleviate the UHI consequences and break this vicious circle, the European Union is financially supporting projects and actions which demonstrate and apply relevant mitigation techniques, as shown in this Overview Article.
