ACE, the Architects’ Council of Europe, will proudly present results and progress of three FP7 projects that they are involved in: LEEMA, iNSPiRe and A2PBEER on 16 June from 13:30 onwards in the Maison des Associations Internationales in Brussels.   The conference will present various innovative materials and technologies in thematic sessions on Lighting, Façades and Insulation.

Thanks to the financial support of the LED4Art pilot European project, the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel has been equipped with a new Light Emitting Diode (LED) system. The new lighting system provides greatly enhanced illumination, saves 60% on energy costs and emissions while the gentler technology reduces the ageing of the paintings compared to the old system dating back to the 1980’s.

In the 3encult project, a lighting concept was developed which is able to fulfil human and materials requirements. The concept is based on LED technology with a free form surface reflector design. It is glare-free, provides very homogenous illuminances and protects historic surfaces by reducing the damage potential caused by radiation. The luminaire – called ‘wallwasher’ - can be installed in many small and non-invasive ways. It’s energy efficiency is exceedingly high compared to other products.

Since 1 July 2013, the french regulation requires that light in offices and shops as well as building facade illumination is turned off at night.This document from the French Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Devlopment and Energy proposes an overview of the situation some 6 months after the implementation of this measure.
