As part of the European Green Deal, in order to encourage this smart sector integration, the Commission presented an EU strategy for energy system integration on 8 July 2020.
This strategy aims for a more integrated, smarter energy sector – increasing efficiency, renewables, and cleaner energy sources.

On Monday 29 June, the Just Transition Platform (JTP) was launched to help Member States to draw up their territorial Just Transition Plans and access funding from the over €150 billion Just Transition Mechanism. This online Platform will provide technical and advisory support for public and private stakeholders in coal and other carbon-intensive regions, with easy access to information on funding opportunities and sources of technical assistance.

The European Investment Fund (EIF) and European Commission are launching a new pilot guarantee facility to improve access to finance for individuals and organisations looking to invest in skills and education. Energy agencies have many important roles through which they can support sustainable energy investments: as facilitators, aggregators or project developers, and therefore are in a unique position to support energy investments in their regions and cities. ManagEnergy uses and enhances this role by raising the skills of energy agencies’ staff on financing and project development, ultimately making them leaders in the energy transition and increasing sustainable energy investments in Europe.
