The decree on Energy Certification of Buildings was partially amended in 2009 as it was needed to make the calculation of building area more precise. Only part of the decree pertaining to the calculation of the building area were amended.

One of the main provisions in the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive 2002/91/EC is the development of certification of buildings, in order to make energy consumption levels visible to owners, tenants and users, and to raise the awareness on energy efficiency whenever a building is constructed, sold or newly rented out.

Mr Tanaka (Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA)) said at the Clean Energy Technologies Symposium on 2nd November 2010: “I am very pleased to be launching in Singapore today, the second of the IEA’s new ”Policy Pathway” series, Energy Performance Certification of Buildings. “Governments are missing a great opportunity to save energy in buildings. Energy efficiency can save energy and cut CO2 emissions at very little or no cost, but there remains a lot to be done if governments and industry are to capture these savings.
