Building envelope: First floor and roof: structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) containing Elastopor® (PU). The low carbon roof is made of lightweight steel and coated with a BASF Coatings’ coil coating infused with specially-selected heat management pigments which have solar heat reflectant properties. Researchers from Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE will analyse the real energy consumption in the occupied building for two years. Like the entire project, the results are pioneering and will be used in future comparable energy-oriented refurbishment projects. Together, Freiburger Stadtbau GmbH, badenova WÄRMEPLUS and the Fraunhofer Institute set themselves the goal of reducing the primary energy requirement of the entire quarter by 50 percent by 2020.

The science-oriented campus, which is situated on a 58,000 m² site adjacent to the Südteich lake, offers space for the 880 students from the Emil-Fischer High School, Schwarzheide, and Lausitz Sixth Form College. The two schools will share certain facilities such as the experiment room or specialist classrooms. The Seecampus will now be managed for the next 30 years by Dywidag, which belongs to the Strabag Group.

Building of Tomorrow  http://www.hausderzukunft.at/english.htm  is a research, technology and development programme from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology (BMVIT for short). Starting from the low-energy solar building approach and the concept of the passive building, and incorporating ways of using environmentally friendly and renewable materials in construction, new designs with great promise for the future have been developed and implemented.
