Campaigning and awareness raising

During the Belgian Fair for Condominiums, the ACE-Retrofitting Conference brought together Belgian and European stakeholders, from both public authorities and private entities, working in the building sector. The political debate and a practitioner experience-sharing session revealed that condominiums still are, what might be called, an orphan amongst building types.

Most people in the year 2050 will live in the very same buildings that we occupy today. There are over two hundred million buildings in the EU that together emit more CO2 than any other sector. Decreasing and decarbonizing the energy used to heat, cool and use these buildings is crucial for the transition to a climate-neutral Europe.

“From our perspective it’s clear that if we want to go to a decarbonised economy by 2050, the heating sector will have to make a very important contribution,” said Robert Nuij, an official in the European Commission’s energy directorate. “One of the flagships of the new Commission will be an action on building renovation”.

EEPLIANT 3 stands for “Energy Efficiency compliant products” and it is a follow up of a series of older projects, EEPLIANT 1 and EEPLIANT 2, started in 2015. It focuses on the benefits of the energy efficiency regulation and on checking the level of compliance of energy products on the market. The innovative aspect of the project consists in dealing with both vertical and horizontal components of market surveillance of energy efficiency.

The HARP project has launched a survey to understand what motivates customers to switch to a more efficient heating system: is it the prospect of saving money? reducing CO2 emissions? an improved indoor air quality?   Knowing this will help us develop an online application that will motivate as many individuals as possible to retrofit their heating systems, promoting the benefits and advantages that matter most.

What is your project about? The objective of our project is to support the implementation of the new EU energy label system developed by the European Commission. The most important is to ensure the smooth transition from the old label system to the new one. The CoNZEBs project formed the main part of a session at the IAQVEC conference in Bari in September 2019. CoNZEBs project partner held in total 6 presentations including a project overview, different project results and one of the national exemplary NZEB buildings presented in the end-user brochure. The papers are published as open source documents in IOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering, Volume 609.
