The HSB Living Lab is a residential block for student and guest researcher apartments that include flexible living units and multifunctional-shared space. Located at the Johanneberg Science Park district in Gothenbnurg (Sweden), HSB living lab is a showcase for how individuals can lead a sustainable lifestyle in their home. The 33 people residing in HSB live and work there in order to test the innovations and technical solutions equipped in the building.

Das hier beschriebene beispielhafte Vorhaben des Stadtquartiers "Karlsruhe-Rintheim" ist Teil der Initiative EnEff:Stadt und zeigt auf, wie neben der Kostenoptimierung für die Energiewende auch eine Minimierung des Primärenergieeinsatzes und der CO2-Emissionen erreicht werden. Das Quartier weist derzeit 36 Gebäude mit 1.243 Wohneinheiten auf, die aus den 1950er und 1960er Jahren stammen. Die vorliegende Publikation beschreibt die Ausgangslage in Rintheim, die Vorgehensweise bei der "integralen Quartierssanierung" und die bis 2013 erzielten Ergebnisse.

Im Rahmen der Begleitforschung zu EnEff:Stadt wurde eine vergleichende Auswertung von zwölf Demonstrationsvorhaben durchgeführt. Hierfür entwickelten die Autoren Methoden und ein energetisches Bilanzierungstool auf Grundlage der DIN V 18599, die es ermöglichen, die Projekte unter den gleichen Randbedingungen auszuwerten.

The European collaborative project RetroKit is now in its final phase with only three months left. The works at the demonstration buildings are finished.  To learn more about the refurbishment work there is a short report from Frankfurt as well as some films about some of the technical solutions that were used.   More news is available in the 7th newsletter from RetroKit.

Directive 2010/31/EU (EPBD) indicates that EU Member States must ensure that by 2021 all new buildings, and already by 2019 all new public buildings, are nearly zero-energy buildings (NZEBs). Article 2 of the EPBD defines the term NZEB as a building with a very high energy performance and a nearly zero or very low amount of energy required, which itself is covered to a very significant extent from renewable sources.

A close connection between the demonstration building owners, the 4 cities, and the participating industry and research organisations is established by the Advisory and Evaluation Group which discusses the planning of the retrofits in detail and provides innovative ideas and insights from different perspectives.

The Borgen Community Centre is located in a suburban area in Asker close to Oslo, the capital of Norway. The Borgen School was built in 1970 and retrofitted and converted in 2005 to Borgen Community Centre, a place for the whole neighbourhood. The Centre contains public services and private organisations. The main building contains a secondary school and facilities for health-care services and leisure-time arrangements. One goal was to increase the possibilities for the local community to use the facilities, and thereby obtain social and economic benefits.
