Buildings and settlements are nowadays increasingly expected to meet higher and potentially more complex levels of performance. They should be sustainable, use zero-net energy, be healthy and comfortable, grid-friendly, yet economical to build and maintain. Buildings are central to the EU‘s energy efficiency policy. Improving the energy performance of Europe‘s building stock is crucial, not only to achieve the EU‘s 2020 targets but also to meet the longer term objectives of the climate strategy as laid down in the low carbon economy roadmap 2050.

The quality assurance in the photovoltaic industry is yet in its infancy, requiring both underpinning science and trained personnel to reduce costs of energy. An unmet industrial requirement is an accelerated, and operating environment specific service life time and energy yield assessment. SOLAR-TRAIN qualified selected early stage researchers in the field of PV durability as part of a highly innovative, multi-disciplinary project meeting industry requirements.

Are you planning to renovate a building? Would you like to combine energy efficiency improvements with architectural additions? The EU-funded ABRACADABRA project has developed 3 decision support tools for this purpose which you can test for free. Case study buildings should either have planned energy renovations or have already undergone renovations. Tools and analytical methods developed by the project team will be applied to each case study building, providing valuable technical, financial and regulatory outcomes to aid the decision-making process.
