But on average, the space per person in Chinese homes has increased by nearly 30 square metres in 40 years, and by four square metres in the UK over the past 15 years.

Prefabricated straw bale construction systems use a natural, low carbon, renewable product, providing high levels of thermal insulation. This modular approach appeals to the creative side of architects and can make life much easier for builders.   ModCell® is an example of a UK system that uses these excellent thermal insulation qualities of straw and timber to make prefabricated straw panels for schools and other buildings.

The RE4 project has reached its end. The research project funded under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program. The RE4 project was based on a collaboration of 13 partners from science and industry.   The main goal was reuse and recycle of CDW materials and structures in energy efficient pREfabricated elements for building refurbishment and construction.

Decarbonisation of the heating and cooling sector is a major challenge to reach carbon neutrality in a near future. One solution is to provide renewable and low carbon heat thanks to district energy. Today’s most advanced 4th and 5th generation district heating and cooling (DHC) systems run at low temperature, allowing less heat loss through pipes, and the use of local heat sources. This means less CO2 emissions and the development of greener local economy.
