This report provides the world's largest database of commissioning case studies for new and existing buildings. It represents a major update and expansion of a study initially published in 2004, with roughly three-times as many projects. We gathered and analysed data on 643 buildings, representing 99 million square feet of floor space from 26 states. The database incorporates the work of 37 commissioning providers.

According to the authors, smart thermostats can save at least 8 - 10% in heating and cooling energy. Moreover, they provide a versatile out-of-the box platform for demand response, revenue generation, grid optimisation and customer engagement. This puts utilities in a great position to adopt this technology as part of energy- and cost saving programmes for their customers.

This page of the ENERGY STAR website provides all the documents describing the requirements and manufacturer commitments for the certification of connected thermostats. Smart thermostats were added to the ENERGY STAR certification programme in January 2017. In order to get the certificate, manufacturers are required to provide heating and cooling data from at least 1,000 homes collected for over a year from across the United States. ATLANTA – The 2017 edition of ASHRAE’s major thermal comfort standard has been published to incorporate seven published addenda to the 2013 edition.   ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 55-2017, Thermal Environmental Conditions for Human Occupancy, simplifies the language of the 2013 standard and clarifies the three comfort calculation approaches in Section 5.3.3, "Elevated Air Speed." The 2017 edition includes a new requirement to calculate the change in occupants' thermal comfort from direct solar radiation.
