Between 2007 and the end of 2010, solar photovoltaic (PV) systems installed and scheduled for installation in Massachusetts increased 20-fold — with jobs in solar manufacturing, installation, and services nearly tripling  while installed wind energy increased 10-fold. In that same time period, Massachusetts launched the most aggressive energy efficiency program in the U.S., with estimated savings of over $6 billion for residential, municipal, industrial and commercial customers and 4,500 jobs sustained or created.

DOE also released the Workforce Guidelines for Home Energy Upgrades, a comprehensive set of guidelines for workers in the residential energy efficiency industry. The guidelines will help develop and expand the skills of the workforce, ensuring the quality of the work performed, while laying the foundation for a more robust worker certification and training program nationwide. Vice President Biden made the announcements at a Middle Class Task Force event, highlighting the progress that has been made on implementing the recommendations of last year's Recovery through Retrofit report.

“In the last four years, the International Code Council has accomplished more in efficiency improvements than all updates combined since 1975,” said Harry Misuriello, ACEEE Fellow and EECC organizer. “Local governments clearly realize that they and their citizens have an important stake in reducing building energy use, and that’s why they sent their delegates to Charlotte to vote for greater energy efficiency.”
