Consumers can feel confident in Energy Star because in 2009 alone,
Americans, with the help of Energy Star, saved enough energy to avoid
greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those from 30 million cars — all
while saving nearly $17 billion on their utility bills.

“The energy efficiency programs in these proposals would create jobs because energy efficiency improvements are labor intensive and net job creators. These programs would produce more construction and service-sector jobs than those energy sector jobs lost from reduced energy consumption,” said Steven Nadel, ACEEE Executive Director. “In addition, these programs would continue creating small numbers of jobs even after the stimulus period is over, because energy bill savings enable consumers and businesses to spend that money elsewhere in the economy.”

The projects, which were competitively selected through the State Energy Program, represent the program's second round of funding that will total $74 million. Additional awards are expected to be made before the end of the year. Measures funded include installation of lighting and lighting controls, heating, cooling and controls, building envelope, photovoltaic systems, high efficiency biomass boilers, solar thermal, small wind generators and alternative-fuel refueling stations and vehicles.

The total energy savings recorded by the Venue Energy Tracker were 906 MWh. That’s enough energy for Canadian Olympic hockey team member and Gold medalist Katie Weatherston to play 1.7 million full games or Canadian Olympic Ski-cross team member Julia Murray to race down the ski-cross course 100 million times.
