An increased energy performance of buildings not only reduces energy costs and CO2 emissions, but creates jobs, increases the comfort and health of its occupants and brings environmental benefits in terms of improved air quality. Valuing these multiple benefits is key to making investment decision more viable and thus accelerating building renovation.

The Launch Event of the project “Implementation of a forecAsting System for urban heaT Island effect for the development of urban adaptation strategies – LIFE ASTI” was held on Friday, November 16th 2018, in Thessaloniki. The project is co-funded by the LIFE 2014-2020 Program, has a total budget of € 1,265,395, with a 36-month implementation period.

“It’s critical we have a big change over the next couple of years in how we do buildings and construction”, said Joyce Msuya, Deputy Executive Director of UNEP. “We only need to look at the current norms and quality of many buildings to see that we can do so much better,” she said, emphasizing that “we need to raise the bar in energy-efficient, green buildings and far better practice in construction.”

A new guidebook on "How to develop a Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP)" has just been released by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre.
Now aligned with the 2030 Covenant of Mayors target, the guidebook has been enriched with information on climate change adaptation, which is one of the three pillars of the movement in Europe.

The UN climate summits, so called COP (Conference of the Parties) are global conferences, in the course of which action for climate policy is negotiated. Poland hosted them twice - in 2008, in Poznań and in 2013, in Warsaw. In December 2018, for the first time, the climate summit will take place in Katowice.
