The recent framework strategy of the “Energy Union” of the European Commission indicates that 75% of European households are energy inefficient. There is also great potential for energy savings in public buildings of the EU. The BUILD2LC project will contribute decisively to achieve the EU energy goals, with its overall objective to increase the energy rehabilitation of buildings, and pave the path that facilitates the transit towards the new standard of nZEB buildings.

During this event activities of various Technical Collaboration Programmes (TCP) of theInternational Energy Agency will be presented and focus will be on the energy reduction in the built environment and the reduction of CO2- emissions.The symposium will explain the various activities. Special attention will be paid to the Belgian and Dutch context. The results of a diverse selection of projects will be presented, including energy resources on community and building level, the indoor environment and the role of users.

On 22 February, WorldGBC Europe responded to a consultation from the technical expert group on sustainable finance (TEG) on the development of the 'taxonomy' - an EU-wide classification system for environmentally sustainable economic activities. This follows on from the Commission's legislative proposal on an EU taxonomy in May 2018.

Architect’s Council of Europe ACE published the 2018 Sector Study – a biennial survey that collects and analyses statistical, sociological and economic data on the European Architects, the architectural market and the architectural practices.   Responses from 30.000 Architects in 30 European countries give, among others, information on BIM use in practice.   More info on BIMcert website.

The BIMcert project will develop a blended, fully supported suite of Building Information Modelling learning tools, which will allow geographically dispersed construction project teams to use technology to enhance information exchange and collaboration. The project will have a particular focus on testing the BIM approaches to green and passive building design to contribute to the improvement of energy efficiency.

The European Union has set out ambitions targets for energy efficiency and climate change over the coming decades. These targets have major implications for the construction sector, in terms of its overall resource efficiency and specifically the energy performance of buildings in accordance with the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (2018/844/EU).
